Schneider Trailer Project

"And all I wanted was some trailers for my I-modal train..."

This whole trailer modeling thing is a whole lotta fun! I you haven't tried it yet, get with it and give it a shot.

This one started out as an A-line 53' plate trailer kit. Decals are from the A-line Schneider set, Microscale's Schneider and Trailer Data sets as well as various bits and pieces of trim film.

I'm fully aware that there are some missing details present, and probably some details that don't belong on this particular model. Problem is, modeling in Bozeman, MT does have some drawbacks. For instance, things (like trucks and trains, for example) don't stop here long enough to get any photos. So, this model was built using several photos found online. And while the word "compromise" is a difficult word for me to deal with, on occasion, it does happen. So, with that in mind....

Here's some pics. Please excuse the quality of the backdrop.

Underside

Underside of the trailer showing the brakes, air lines, retainer springs, etc. I'm about 100% sure that this arrangement isn't prototypical, but at least it gives the impression that something besides "pieces of wire axle" is present.

Rear

Rear of the trailer with lots of "cut and piece together" decal work. The weathering on the bumper area was a blast to apply.

Front

The front, with scratchbuilt record box, gladhands and piping.

This side

Curbside.

The other side

Roadside.

Wheels

This part was fun. Chalks, washes and airbrushes were used to get the tires and wheels to look this dirty. Should have removed a little more flash from the rims, eh??

I'm in the process of building another, this time using A-line's Wabash National 53' Duraplate Trailer. It'll end up here when complete.
